The Hero Piece: The White Shirt

White shirt in action. I love to pair white button-ups with skirts and jeans alike - they are just so versatile, a true hero piece. |

The Hero Piece is a new series that accompanies my capsule wardrobe related posts throughout the year. I zoom in on one piece of my capsule wardrobe that gives me great wearability and combines effortlessly with a variety of items in my closet. I consider a hero piece to be an item that let’s your wardrobe shine no matter what the occasion.

Simple, but classic basics

My style is based mainly on simple, classic basics. While a couple of years ago, I was an avid reader of Vogue, I am no longer intrigued by the latest trends. I might incorporate a trend at some point down the road when I truly like it – irrespective of the hype – but generally my style focuses on those pieces that I already love.

I love clean, simple silhouettes and I think that basics, like a pair of jeans, a button up, or a cashmere pullover are the perfect centerpieces for my wardrobe.

The white shirt

The choice to start this series with the white shirt is probably not very surprising if you follow me on instagram. I love wearing a white shirt.

Throwing on a white shirt is the surest shortcut to looking put together. It’s the easiest way to achieve a clean look. You can easily dress a white shirt up or down, depending on the occasion. It goes with practically anything. Depending on the cut and the fabric, a white shirt can look more masculine or feminine.

The perfect white shirt is a true hero piece for your wardrobe. It's really versatile and combines effortlessly with a variety of different items in your wardrobe. |

1 uniqlo, 2 hessnatur, 3 COS, 4 equipment, 5 people tree, 6 j.crew

Personally, I prefer a looser fit, because this is what works with my preferred silhouette. In my capsule wardrobe for spring and summer I have 4 white shirts. They are all the Oxford fit by uniqlo – the quality is really good in my experience, but since I love white shirts so much I am interested in other options to add to my upcoming fall and winter capsule wardrobe.

Do you love button-ups, too? Any recommendations?
